As a middle-aged woman working in wellness and health promotion, I understand the benefits of physical activity and I am always encouraging patients to eat healthy and do more physical activity. But when it comes to me, I often fail to schedule it in. I had heard of many different options working in wellness and health promotion but I still had questions on Altru’s Sports Advantage was a good fit for me. What is Altru’s Sports Advantage? What services are offered there? Is this for me? I’m not in sports!
If 2020 has taught us anything, it is to look inside and find what matters most. We often put our health last, we take care of our family, we take care of others, but who takes care of us? At the height of the pandemic, being healthy was hard, even harder than normal. Gyms were closed, people were isolated, everyone was, and still is-stressed. In the new year, we need to start putting our health first; for our families and for us. We are better when we are active and healthy and we can be there for those who mean the most to us. Doing what we can each day to keep ourselves and our family and friends healthy is one of the most important things going into 2021.
Altru Sports Advantage isn’t just for people who are involved in sports, it’s for anyone. Maybe you are an athlete at the youth or collegiate level, maybe you used to always put your health first but have fallen out of the habit, or maybe you’re a middle aged and out of shape mom like me. The best part of Sports Advantage is the team of sports medicine professionals from Altru Orthopedics that you can trust to help you safely achieve your goals. When I decided to try Sport’s Advantage, I kept asking myself, what is my sport? The team at Sport’s Advantage helped my answer my own question. My sport by being active with my family – skating, sledding, biking, hiking, walking, jogging and even swimming (sometimes if my kids beg).
I set up a time to try the 4:30 pm class with Danielle. The hour went by very fast and Danielle was very helpful to provide me with modifications to ensure the utmost safety. We started with some social distance warm-ups on the field and then moved into the 100- calorie burn. Since it was my first day, I was allowed to speed walk on the curved treadmill until I burned my 100 calories. I now have new respect for a slice of cheese that is 100 calories. We then moved into strength training stations. These were awesome! I enjoyed each of the 3 stations and tried out equipment and exercises I had never done before but was not intimidated at all as Danielle was there to coach me on the how to’s. We had enough time to complete 3 rounds of 3 exercises at 3 stations. I felt a sense of accomplishment for full body 1- hour workout that I just completed. It was up-beat and engaging. I’ll be back.
Sports Advantage is for everyone, even middle aged out of shape mom’s like me. Now I ask – what is your sport? If you are wanting to give Sports Advantage a try – join the 21 days of fitness or schedule a free week trial today!
